PowerTest

THIS PRODUCT IS NOT YET AVAILABLE

PowerTest (TM) is a large collection of various randomness tests collected from literature, different programs floating on the Internet and some of our own original tests that have proven to be strong particularly in testing hardware generated random bits.

It is a general notion that not all tests are equally strong or suitable for testing pseudo-random bit generators and hardware non-deterministic random bit generators. Pseudorandom bit generators (also known as pseudo-random number generators) based on iterative mathematical formulae, shift registers etc. are more likely to produce long term correlations and "nice" patterns known from the theory of Deterministic Chaos and fractals in sometimes revealed only in multi-dimensional analysis. Hardware generators, on the other hand, suffer from defects that are generated with underlying hardware problems: nonzero bias and immediate correlations (autocorrelations).

Thus, when testing or constructing a hardware random generator, one should reach first for most hardware-oriented tests such as bias, autocorrelation and bitanal because they will be able to detect hardware-characteristic defects already on short sequences. Vice-versa, when constructing/optimizing a pseudorandom generator tests such as Marsaglia's monkey and DNA tests may be a good idea to try first.

However, good strings of randomly distributed bits should pass all the tests regardless of their "speciality". Therefore, the ultimate test of any kind of generator must include large number of tests.
